He first gained recognition for playing the role of Kim Hyde in the Australian TV series Home and Away and in 2009 his first major film role came as Lieutenant Commander George Kirk in Star Trek. He gained international attention for his role as the Marvel Comics superhero Thor in the 2011 film of the same name and reprised the role in 2012's The Avengers.
